The experience
Seville grew rich on the river. All the gold from the Americas came in here, and the city grew up around the harbour.
A small, elegant yacht on the Guadalquivir, with a waiter and a skipper on board. You choose two or three hours, for lunch in daylight or dinner after sunset when the city is lit up.
Here you need do nothing but come aboard. The table is laid when you arrive. The food is put together as a gourmet menu of Spanish dishes — pata negra ham, salmorejo, Spanish potato omelette and more — served with manzanilla from the region, beer, soft drinks, coffee, tea and water. The wine is poured while the boat glides down the river.
Halfway through, thirty minutes of live Spanish music: rumbas and sevillanas, played on board rather than through a speaker. Around you the city passes on both sides — the Torre del Oro, the Triana bridge, the San Telmo palace and Torre Sevilla. Seeing it from the water is not only a good view; it is the direction the city was built to be seen from.
There are two ways to do it. Join a departure and share the boat with a few other guests, fourteen on board at most. Or take the yacht entirely for yourselves: no other guests, your own menu, your own time, and the deck decorated as you wish — which is what most guests choose for a birthday, an anniversary, a proposal or a honeymoon.
New · Morning on the river
